Access Delegation Help
Student:
What is access delegation?
Access delegation allows you to give another person access to your records. Currently you can grant access to My Financial Center (MFC); in the future you will be able to grant access to other school records through this site.
How do I give someone access to my records?
To give someone access to your records you must add them as a delegate through the access delegation website (
https://link.byu.edu/delegate).
What rights does a delegate have?
When you make someone a delegate then they will have the same online access as you do when you sign in yourself. These self-service rights are limited to the specific areas of access you have granted them, e.g. My Financial Center. They will also be able to get information when they call and talk to a BYU employee after they have been identified with the validation phrase you created and gave to them.
What is a validation phrase?
This is a phrase between 6 to 30 characters that you create to identify your delegates. You give this validation phrase to anyone you make a delegate so they can identify themselves if they wish to receive your information over the phone with a BYU employee.
Where can I go if I forget my validation phrase?
Your validation phrase is displayed at the bottom of the main access delegation page when you are signed in. You can change this phrase at any time by clicking on the “Change it” button next to the phrase. If you change it, you’ll want to remember to give your new phrase to your delegates so they can speak with a BYU employee if needed.
Does a delegate need a Net ID?
Yes. In order to add someone as a delegate they need to have a Net ID. If they don’t already have a Net ID they can create one at link.byu.edu/netid
How do I know if someone has accepted my request for them to have access?
You will be sent an email when someone has accepted your invitation. You can also see who has accepted on your main access delegation page.
How do I delete someone as a delegate?
On your main access delegation page under “Delegates who have been granted access to My Financial Center:” there is a list of the names and Net ID’s of those you have made delegates. Next to each name there is a button that says “Remove”. When you push the remove button then the corresponding person will no longer have delegate access.
Can I add more than one delegate?
By going to the access delegation page and pushing the “Add a Delegate” button you can add multiple delegates. The names of all those you have added as a delegate will be listed under “Delegates who have been granted access to My Financial Center” on the access delegation page.
How is the person I want to delegate access to notified that I have added them as a delegate?
When you add someone as a delegate an email will be sent to the delegate’s email address associated with their Net ID.
What is the expiration date? Can I change this?
After the expiration date the delegate will no longer have access to your records. The expiration date is set automatically to three years from the day you add the delegate. At this time you cannot change the expiration date but in the future you will be able to. You can remove the delegate at any time regardless of the expiration date. (Note: Prior to May 15, 2013 the default expiration period was two years.)

When you click on this button it will take you to My Financial Center in behalf of that individual. Be sure to enable pop-ups or you won’t be able to get to this page.
What if I forget the validation phrase the student gave me?
